The One-Line: Several highway travelers take multiple road trips, navigating humorous and often disastrous situations until each one of them becomes the driver.
Genre: Comedy
Cast: 5-12 (M/F) Each actor plays several characters
Setting: Four chairs set up as a car
Running Time: 45 minutes
Synopsis: Road Trips are fun! But they can also be awful! In this rapid succession of hysterical excursions, automotive travelers take on everything from hitchhikers to drowsy drivers and stoplight fire drills to a frustrated police officer who would rather be a choreographer, and on and on and on. Will these highway wanderers ever get to where they’re going? With a clever concept of rotating each character to the driver’s seat, each actor will play several parts, navigating not only the outside roads but the inside of the car as well. All the roles are extremely balanced to give everyone several moments in the spotlight. And since no more than five people are ever onstage simultaneously, opportunities for doubling offers actors the challenge of creating even more characters. With extremely simple production needs, this fun and fast-paced one-act can be performed just about anywhere and is a clever competition piece.
Casting Note: All parts can be either male or female. This play can be done with as few as five actors or as many as twelve or any number in between. If doubling or tripling, the actors will make quick costume changes to enter as the next character.
